The weather is finally turning, which means it’s time to retire the bikinis and boardshorts and break out the jeans and cardigans. Boo, you say? You’re a beach baby with no clue how to dress for the city and a cooler climate? Here are a few tips that will help you ease into the sweater weather.
1. Cable Knit Chic
Best copped in neutral colors to go with everything else you have in your closet. Try to go for a loose-fit; more of a pull-over than a body-hugger, just in case you gain a little extra weight around the holidays. Remember: the bigger the knit, the better!
Best for: Layering, days when you’re lazy to dress up but want to look put-together
Best with: A tailored skirt, dark jeans or slacks
2. Lola/Lolo Swag
Who doesn’t want to look like their grandma knitted them something special to wear for the occasion, any occasion? Take the concept of “ugly sweaters” to the next level and cop some knits in a fun, quirky design. The print and colors are sure to perk up your day, as well as those of those around you.
Best for: Gloomy days
Best with: Anything neutral; you want the highlight of your outfit to be this sweater!
3. Upscale Utilitarian
No one can really tell what the weather for the day will be like, even when it’s raining cats and dogs out, so it’s best to equip yourself with a jacket that can get you through anything.
Best for: Dressing down, after-work excursions
Best with: All black
4. Undergrad Fab
Whoever said those varsity jackets would only be chic on campus had no idea what they were talking about. Letterman’s jackets will always exude cool, and this year has seen a resurgence in all thing’s school. From varsity jackets to striped sleeves, stay warm while staying in trend.
Best for: Casual days, offices with really cold airconditioning
Best with: Jeans and a collared shirt
What your rainy weather style?
